Sunrise · the akhet
Umbrakhet
A temple courtyard, a handful of obelisks and the sun on its daily road. Raise each obelisk so its shadow lets the black cats of Bastet sleep, without letting a single shadow fall across a lotus.
A puzzle game for iOSThe obelisk is raised…
Noon · the rule
One shadow, many hours
An obelisk throws a shadow exactly as many squares long as it stands tall, always away from the sun. Tap the sundial above the court and watch every shadow swing to a new hour. A cat names the hours it wants shade; a lotus wants the sun at all of them.
Sunrise
The sun stands on the right; shadows reach to the left.
Noon
The sun is at the top of the dial; shadows fall straight down the court.
Sunset
The sun sinks on the left; shadows stretch away to the right.
Afternoon · the procession
Six halls, six lessons of the sun
- Court of First LightOne hour of sun. Raise obelisks so every cat sleeps.
- Lotus TerraceLotuses arrive, and they must never be shaded.
- Plinth GateGilded plinths stop any shadow that runs into them.
- Hall of Three HoursSunrise, noon and sunset in one court, each cat with its own hour.
- Colossi AvenueSeated stone kings cast shadows you cannot move, and the sun begins to slant.
- Low Sun SanctumAt sunrise and sunset the low sun doubles every shadow.
Sunset · the seal
Bronze for the court, gold for the royal way
When every ward is content, the solar barque sails across the dial and the court is sealed in bronze. Most courts can be kept in a few ways, but each hides a gilded shabti, and only one arrangement shades it too. Find it and the seal turns gold.
The Quarry
Spend the copper deben you earn on instruments such as the Eye of Horus, a plumb line and a sun compass, or dress your obelisks in rose granite or amethyst.
The Cord
Climb from peg-setter to Vizier of the Hours, and tie sixteen knots for the deeds along the way.
The Logbook
A scribe keeps count of every obelisk raised, every crossing of the sun and every seal won, hall by hall.
